Saskferco’s plant site boasts minimal impact on the environment. Bound by environmental standards, Saskferco has chosen to exceed the existing minimums thereby setting new, higher industry standards for environmental responsibility.
The Saskferco plant was designed to protect the environment while allowing the company to maintain a competitive edge in the global market. In 1995, we signed an Environmental Partnership Agreement with Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management. This led to the development of a case study outlining the design, operation and environmental management system used by Saskferco. Our plant then became a teaching site for new and established industries in Saskatchewan.
Saskferco minimizes the environmental impact of its plant site in a variety of ways including a zero wastewater discharge policy wherein no wastewater is dumped into any river, lake or stream. This is achieved through the extensive reuse of water in the plant and on-site evaporation ponds lined with impermeable clay. We willingly comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations to the point where annual emissions are well below allowable limits and a fraction of those of similar North American fertilizer producers. In addition, our product mix is heavily geared to granular urea, one of the safest and easiest fertilizers for farmers to handle.
Saskferco sets the standard for the protection of the environment.
