Saskferco is one of the largest producers of granular urea, urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) and anhydrous ammonia in North America. These three forms of nitrogen fertilizer, which replace nutrients depleted from the soil over years of continual farming, are essential to help farmers increase their crop yields and produce more in a limited amount of space. Since 25% of world food production - 40% in Canada - is directly attributable to the use of fertilizers, a reliable supply of such fertilizers is essential.

The Saskferco plant employs the most current technology to manufacture high quality products around the clock, 365 days a year. Each day, we produce 2,850 tonnes of urea, 1,860 tonnes of anhydrous ammonia and 670 tonnes of UAN solution at 28-0-0. This production capacity ensures our position as a top producer of nitrogen fertilizers.

Although the process used to make nitrogen fertilizer is not complex, it does require specialized equipment. In simple terms, a combination of natural gas, air and water produces anhydrous ammonia, a gaseous fertilizer, and carbon dioxide. Another process that combines anhydrous ammonia and carbon dioxide produces granular urea, the solid form of nitrogen fertilizer. Both fertilizers are used in the agricultural and industrial sectors of the economy.

It is also hard and virtually dust-free which preserves its condition and minimizes losses during shipping.
